LOS ANGELES, California – Now that the World Boxing Council (WBC) Board of Governors in Mexico City has given two-division world champion Manny Pacquiao until July 28 to decide which of his two belts—WBC super featherweight and WBC lightweight – he will relinquish, Pacquiao might jettison the lower division and retain the title he wrested from David Diaz on June 28 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This became apparent after Pacquiao had indicated he was willing to defend the 135-lb title “against whoever my promoter will tap to face me” before thinking of whether or not invading the light welterweight division governed by Ricky Hatton. Read full story...

Add Paul Malignaggi to the growing list of boxers hoping and dreaming of a mega-buck fight with Manny Pacquiao.

The reigning IBF light-welterweight champion from Brooklyn has expressed his desire to take on the Filipino superstar right after he “beats” Ricky Hatton in their scheduled bout in November.

Malignaggi, also known as the “Magic Man,” told James Slater of Fightbeat.com yesterday that he resents the fact that Pacquiao, this early, is already looking forward to a fight with Hatton. Read full story...

Boxing Confidential has learned that Top Rank Promotions has filed an application with the Nevada State Athletic Commission to promote a boxing show on November 15, 2008 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas featuring WBC lightweight champion Manny Pacquiao against WBA super featherweight champion Edwin Valero.
